An Invitation

You are invited
to build a new foundation for your country’s future.

You are invited to be a founding father or mother of the America that is to be, one that fulfulls the promise of our original founders  – that finally, at long last, manifests the “more perfect union” that they dreamed of.

What would you give to feel good about your country again? Are you a change-maker, ready to roll up your sleeves and be part of the solution? If so, this website is for you.

Do you believe that society can work better for everyone? Do you desire this as you desire your personal goals? We hold that all change-makers have a similar motivation to serve the common good, however diverse our ideas of what is and what should be. Are you willing to look beyond the existing political labels to embrace a new model that may include elements of what is now called both “liberal” and “conservative”, both “secular” and “sacred”, both “traditional” and “innovative”?

So, to begin, let us drop the labels and see what unites us. We believe that common ground may be found here, if all of the following are true for you:

• You seek quality in thought. You’ve made conscientious effort to understand the world and the issues facing us in our lives, not just adopted whatever conclusion is most expedient.
• You seek quality in relationship. You try to be aware of your own motivations in how you relate. While you may not succeed in every moment to treat others with honesty, compassion and respect, you consider it important to try. No one is excluded from your consideration because of birth or belief.
• Your outlook on America, and towards the world in general, is oriented towards service. Whatever you think ought to be done, you believe it would produce the greatest good for the greatest number.
• You seek integrity at all times, in yourself and others. When you express yourself, you come from a place of truthfulness and clarity, to the best of your ability. You use language to reveal and clarify, never to deceive or manipulate. ¹
• You believe that freedom and order are necessary and complementary.
  • You associate freedom with the opportunity for each person to fulfill their potential, with each person being offered an “open road” in pursuit of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” – you don’t confuse it with the license to do anything you please regardless of consequence.
  • You associate order with customs and institutions that support safety, growth, creativity and prosperity for the greatest number. You gladly accept the responsibility and self-discipline that allows us all to live together – in short, you embrace your part in maintaining civilization, as distinct from chaos².
• Your greatest hope is that your time on earth will help in some way, however small, to make the world a better place.

You will encounter spiritual concepts and language throughout this website. We, the authors, hold as a foundational principle that everyone on earth is an eternal soul, equally beloved of God. We hold that different belief systems exist because there are many paths to the Divine, useful to different people based on their culture or character – that an organized belief system can be your path to a closer relationship to God, but does not in itself create a closer relationship ( that is up to the individual) – and absolutely does not confer a higher status in God’s eyes. We further hold that it’s unimportant whether or not you self-identify as “religious” or “spiritual” – that we are all walking a path back to closer unity with the Divine.

How is one to live in a way that expresses the highest principle in each of us, with deep respect for the “image and likeness of God” that lives within each of us, within the earth itself? How can our institutions of government be brought into service of these principles, while satisfying society’s practical needs? America’s founders took on this task in the 1700’s, and now is time to take it on again.

1. We hold that the responsible use of language is not only necessary for clear communication and meaningful relationships, but is a fundamental cornerstone of civilization. This is discussed in more detail elsewhere on this site.
2. “Order” is often confused with repressive authority: By governments, by bosses, by family members, teachers, etc. People often embrace destructive authoritarian figures and ideas when frightened by a loss of control in their own lives or in society around them. However, the willingness to abide by constructive authority – i.e., by structures that serve the greatest good – is essential to all cultures, regardless of technological level, style of government, etc. However, when authority is arbitrary, repressive, and fails to support the common good, it then undermines peoples’ sense that constructive, supportive structures for living are possible, and that each person has a stake in supporting such structures – and in doing so it actually fosters chaos, not order.
